Long Bien Bridge

Location: Long Bien bridge across the Red River, which connects the two districts of Hoan Kiem, Long Bien and Hanoi.

Features: Long Bien is the first steel bridge across the Red River and is regarded as a historical testimony witnessed many ups and downs of the deals through the two resistance wars against the French and Americans.
Construction Project Long Bien Bridge was Governor General of Indochina Paul Doumer passed in 1897 aims to improve the infrastructure necessary for the exploitation of the French colonies. In 1898 the company's French Dayde & Pille was awarded for design and construction of bridges. The commencement of construction of the bridge was carried out in 1899 and completed in 1902, the bridge was named after the name of the Governor General Doumer Indochina. This is the largest bridge in Indochina by the French at that time and hailed as "the bridge connecting the two centuries". Bridge spanning the river segment includes long steel girder 2.290m with 19 offices located in 20 higher than 40 meters (including basement) and 896m path up the stone. After the liberation of the capital (10/10/1954), the bridge was renamed the Long Bien. In the war against the United States (1954 - 1975), Vietnam's military has built two air defense artillery on the beach between the Red River and use the high point on the bridge as artillery emplacements US aircraft bombarded. The bridge was the US aircraft bombed plow beams are replaced by semi-permanent, short-span on the new office to ensure that traffic across the bridge without interruption. In 2002, the Long Bien Bridge is repaired, reinforced.

Currently, the bridge only for trains, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians. A special feature at the Long Bien Bridge is the direction of the bridge means to the left, as opposed to traffic in Vietnam. At the top of the Long Bien Bridge still mounted metal plaque engraved time and name bridge construction contractors.
